Tea Dyed Onesie
For a baby shower gift, i made this tea-dyed caterpillar onesie.. Which i think is really cute! I found a great “tutorial” with directions on tea dying a onesie, from: Simple Simon & Co.
What You’ll need:
I used a new White Onesie
5-8 Lipton Tea Bags
Embrodery Thread
Buttons
Embrodery Hoop
Beads
Step 1.
Get your garment wet. Run it under some warm water and then wring out the excess.
Step 2.
Submerge your garment in a warm tea bath.
I boiled water in a pot on the stove, added several Lipton tea packets, let simmer until my water turned a nice deep shade of brown and then let it cool down before adding the clothing.
Step 3.
Let your garment sit in the bath until you get the color you desire.
Step 4.
Rinse your garment until the water runs clear.
Step 5.
Dry in the drier to set the color.
The first time i did this i let it sit for an hour or so, which was WAY too long! It came out horribly streaky and brown. It looked plain dirty. I soaked it in a bleach bath and redid it. The second time, i just submerged it in the tea and moved it around with my hands, maybe “dunk” the onsie in the tea a few times. Then i wrung it out and dried it.
When drying it in the dryer, i found that it tends to fold over when it gets tossed around. Which caused streaks.. So be sure to check on it and turn it flat every so offten.. Or what i did was i hung it to dry about half way then put it in the dryer.

Really cute..would also be cute on a tote :))
Great post!
